Join the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Hub (UReCA) to learn about the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program, First-Year Research Experience (FYRE) and K-IMBRE programs by listening to students currently participating in them. In this upcoming session at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2 in 265 Rhatigan Student Center, Lucas Room, participants will learn about the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Hub (UReCA), affiliated research programs and companies, information on funding and a brief introduction to the office of research. The event is open to all undergraduate students interested in learning more about research.

Curious about getting involved in research at WSU? Come join the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Hub (UReCA) for an exciting panel event featuring three undergraduate researchers — Zoie Liska, Garett Knight and Lauren Hughes — at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 8 in 262 Rhatigan Student Center, Herrman Room.

You’ll hear firsthand about their experiences in the FYRE program, McNair Scholars and K-INBRE. Whether you’re just starting out or already exploring research opportunities, this is your chance to learn more and get inspired. Open to all undergraduate students.

In collaboration with PPMC, the Office of Research and the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Hub (UReCA), the WSU community is invited to attend an upcoming grant writing workshop from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3 in Ablah Library, focused on the key strategies that strengthen any successful proposal: alignment, relationships and storytelling.

Learn how to:

  • Align your project with the goals and mission of funding agencies
  • Build meaningful relationships that support and elevate your proposal
  • Use powerful storytelling to communicate your project’s purpose and impact

Whether you’re new to grant writing or looking to sharpen your skills, this workshop will help you craft compelling proposals that resonate with reviewers and increase your chances of funding.

Are you a STEM student who loves conducting research? What if you could receive an award of up to $7,500 for an entire academic year? Join an informative workshop on the Barry Goldwater Scholarship application process from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27 in 265 Rhatigan Student Center, Lucas Room for an opportunity to learn how to craft a compelling application and get your questions answered. Join Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Hub (UReCA) from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, July 7 in the Digital Scholars Commons of Ablah Library to meet other researchers on campus.

This event is open to all students, their faculty mentors and faculty who are interested in mentoring an undergraduate student this upcoming fall. Guests are encouraged to network, ask questions to faculty or other students and have fun. Snacks and games will be provided.

 

The Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Forum (URCAF) will be held April 25. This year, URCAF will be hosted in Woosley Hall.

Schedule:

  • 8:45-9:30 a.m.: Student/judge registration in 231/232 Woolsey Hall, Mahan, McKay and Lucas Room
  • 9:30-12:30 p.m.: Poster presentations in the first floor atrium of Woolsey Hall
  • 12:30-2 p.m.: Boxed lunches will be provided for each presenter and judges
  • 2-2:30 p.m.: URCAF awards ceremony, 231 Woolsey Hall

  • URCAF requires free standing/tri-fold posters for participation. It is the student’s responsibility to bring their free-standing posters.
  • Abstract submission deadline is April 18. URCAF abstracts should be submitted by the deadline posted. Keep in mind that the abstracts can describe research in progress, not necessarily research that is completed at the time of abstract submission.
  • Eligibility: All undergraduate students in good academic standing are eligible to participate either individually or as a team. Undergraduate research and creative activity must be completed during the summer 2024, fall 2024 or spring 2025 semesters.
  • Requirements: Students must submit an abstract (see abstract instructions). Student presentations may include material that has been or will be presented elsewhere. Students are responsible for providing and transporting any necessary equipment and/or materials needed for their presentation.
  • Poster presentation: The posters will be displayed on tables, so make sure that the posters are free-standing (or tri-fold posters). Space is limited, so the posters, as displayed, must be no more than 48” wide. In-house electricity will not be available, so students should provide their own batteries if electricity is necessary for the poster presentation. Students should be stationed at his or her poster during the viewing session
