Volunteers needed for state events on campus

5A state baseball and softball will be held on Wichita State’s campus May 27-29 and state track May 29-30. Last year, these activities brought more than 30,000 people to campus. The university is asking for help from the campus community to drive golf carts during these events.

Golf cart rides will be offered May 29 and 30. Drivers will provide visitors rides to their destinations on campus.

If you are interested in working these events, sign up online. There are two tabs at the bottom of the sheet: one to sign up as a golf cart driver and one to include your sign-up information. Volunteers signed up by Wednesday, May 13 will receive a T-shirt to be worn during the events, so indicate your preferred shirt size and include your email address on the second tab of the sign up. Detailed information will be sent the week of May 25 to those who signed up to help.

For assistance signing up for a time to volunteer, reach out to Carmen Hytche at carmen.hytche@wichita.edu.

These events would not be successful without the support of our Shocker family, and we sincerely appreciate your help in creating a welcoming campus for our guests.

Every spring, WSU hosts two campus-wide research competitions: the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Forum (URCAF) and the Graduate Research and Scholarly Project (GRASP) symposium. Under the mentorship of a WSU faculty member, students from all disciplines share their research and creative projects through poster or oral presentations.

This year, URCAF and GRASP will come together for a joint celebration from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 24 at Woolsey Hall. The event is free is open to the public. Judges are needed for both events. Oral presentations are from 8:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. (two sessions with concurrent panels). Poster presentations are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

No previous judging experience or specific expertise is required.

The Center for Entrepreneurship would like to invite students to sign up as a judge or volunteer for the 2026 Shocker New Venture Competition (SNVC) May 1. This is a valuable opportunity to engage with some of WSU’s most promising student entrepreneurs, hear innovative ideas and provide meaningful feedback to help teams advance their business idea. For more information on judging and volunteering timeslots, visit wichita.edu/snvc.
