Volunteers are needed for the fall 2024 Commencement Ceremonies will be held Sunday, Dec. 15. There are two shifts: 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and 3:30-7:30 p.m.

Participation is voluntary. Volunteers will be fed and enjoy a great time with a fun group of people as you welcome guests and graduates to this memorable event.

Volunteers should check with student organizations they are a member of or their departments to see if there are even more benefits to your participation.

Wichita State offers an incredible opportunity for Kansas residents aged 60 and over to enroll in free classes this fall, both online and in-person, if enrolled by the deadline.

Help share the news with friends, family and the community. Classes cover a variety of engaging topics, and this semester’s classes include From Vinyl to Viral: A Musical Time Capsule, Presidential Campaign Communications and The Geology of National Parks of the World. The registration deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 11, so you can encourage your loved ones to sign up today and join the lifelong learning journey.

Join the Office for Workforce Professional and Community Education (WPCE) in celebrating Johny Buchanan-Spachek at a come and go retirement reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, March 22 in Hughes Metropolitan Complex, room 132.

Johny has served the WSU community as an office manager for 12 years in multiple offices including the Student Government Association and the College of Applied Studies, spending the past year and a half with WPCE. During her time at WSU, Johny was an active member of the Staff Senate for many years and even served as senate president from 2016-17. She is also a part of the Women of Wichita State University, where she served two terms as its treasurer.

Help show appreciation for her service to the university by joining the celebration for refreshments and light snacks while wishing Johny all the best as she heads back to Texas.

Volunteers will welcome guests and graduates at the event, and food will be provided.

The 11th annual Expanding Your Horizons workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 in Hubbard Hall. Geared towards middle school girls, the event offers a unique opportunity to delve into the world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Attendees get hands-on workshops, lunch, a T-shirt and a WSU bag with their $15 entry fee, and they will have the chance to explore various STEM fields, connect with passionate instructors and gain insights into potential careers. Additionally, parents can join an optional session covering college preparation and financing while considering an engaging WSU campus tour.
