Did you know that hazing is any act or action which:

  • Has the potential to endanger the mental or physical health or safety of any individual
  • Interferes with an individual’s responsibilities
  • Explicitly or implicitly encourages or requires participation in activities that violate the law or university policy

Hazing can occur by anyone in any organization.

More details regarding hazing and other policies in the Student Code of Conduct can be found in Section VI: Prohibited Conduct in the Student Code of Conduct Handbook.

Student Conduct & Community Standards (SCCS) is sharing a helpful resource regarding student classroom behavior with faculty and staff on campus. The guide, which can be found on the Student Conduct website, discusses three easy steps to better manage classroom behavior.

  • Establish high and positive behavioral expectations
  • Reiterate/adjust and communicate those high and positive expectations
  • Outline next steps and document the disruption

If you are ever unsure about whether to make a report to the SCCS office or not, you can email SCCS@wichita.edu or call 316-978-6681. If you believe a report needs to be made to SCCS, fill out the conduct incident response form (wichita.edu/reportit).

Interested in learning more about the Academic Integrity policies and process at Wichita State? Student Conduct & Community Standards (SCCS) is hosting multiple Academic integrity 101 sessions, where it will discuss:

  • Policy 2.17/student academic integrity
  • Reporting academic integrity violations to SCCS
  • Academic Integrity processes
  • Helpful resources for faculty and instructors

The course is intended for faculty/instructors only. To register for any of the sessions offered through the 2024-25 academic year, go to the MyTraining section of the MyWSU portal and search for “Academic Integrity 101.” The next session is Friday, Aug. 23. Reach out to SCCS at SCCS@wichita.edu for questions.

Do you need Student Conduct & Community Standards (SCCS) staff to present in a classroom, at a conference, at a departmental meeting or for a program?

SCCS staff are always happy to present on any of the following topics to provide more education for students, staff and faculty on campus regarding its office or policies:

  • Overview on academic integrity
  • Overview on submitting incident reports
  • Overview on specific conduct policies found in 05/student code of conduct
  • Overview of specific data from the SCCS office
  • Hazing prevention
  • Classroom management
  • General information about Student Conduct & Community Standards

Fill out the online “Request a Presentation” form to request SCCS staff create a specific presentation. A member of the SCCS team will be assigned to work with you to meet the presentation goals and will be available to present on the topic as well as answer any questions.

Please ensure there is ample of time between the request and the presentation due date, as the presentations will take time to create. The SCCS office will do its best to accommodate presentation dates, and staff will work with you if there are conflicts.

Christine Yim is the new assistant director for Student Conduct & Community Standards (SCCS). She oversees the student conduct hearing board and academic integrity committee, the academic integrity process, campus outreach initiatives and the conflict resolution process. She also consults with students, faculty and staff as needed in regard to academic integrity or student conduct concerns.

Student Conduct & Community Standards (SCCS) is raising awareness regarding certain policies in the code of conduct at Wichita State. For the month of April, it is discussing drug policy.

Did you know that the drug policy has multiple points? They are defined as:

  • Unauthorized possession, use and/or misuse of drugs and/or other substances: Unauthorized possession, use and/or misuse of drugs and/or other substances which may alter a student’s mental state or impair a student’s behavior including, but not limited to, marijuana and marijuana byproducts, cocaine, heroin, lysergic acid (LSD), MDMA, steroids, amphetamines, prescription medication and/or over the counter medication.
  • Unauthorized possession and/or use of drug paraphernalia: Engaging in the possession and/or use of drug paraphernalia (i.e. any equipment, product, or material that is for making, using, or concealing drugs and/or other substances) including, but not limited to, pipe(s), bong(s), grinder(s), rolling paper(s) or a scale.
  • Unauthorized manufacture, sale and/or distribution of drugs and/or other substances: Engaging in the unauthorized manufacture, sale and/or distribution of drugs and/or other substances which may alter a student’s mental state or impair a student’s behavior including, but not limited to, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, lysergic acid (LSD), MDMA, steroids, amphetamines, prescription medication and/or over the counter medication.
  • Driving while impaired: Control or operation of a vehicle (e.g. automobile, motorcycle, bicycle, skateboard, scooter, Segway, hoverboard, tractor, etc.) while impaired by alcohol, drugs or another substance.
  • Public intoxication: Being impaired by alcohol or another substance to the point where one’s behavior adversely affects or could affect, the regular operations of members of the university community.
