The Department of Biological Sciences’ fall 2026 seminar series begins Monday, Aug. 24 with Barrett Houchen of Montrose Environmental Group. He will give a public lecture, “Unraveling the Ecology of Macrophomina phaseolina in Native Grassland Soils,” from 4 to 5 p.m. in 231 Hubbard Hall.

Workstation for confocal microscope. The microscope includes several pieces of equipment stacked on the floor as well as on a workbench. The equipment on the workbench includes a black box that encloses the sample and ocular lenses to view. A computer is set up on a desk next to the microscope and includes two monitors and an empty desk chair. One monitor shows an open program that is viewing fluorescent images of a sample.

Wichita State’s Microscopic Imaging Core is hosting an open house from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Friday, May 8 in 521 Hubbard Hall, to showcase the new Zeiss LSM 910 Airyscan confocal microscope. This is a come and go event that encourages potential users to learn more about the equipment and the reservation process. For additional information or questions, email biomicfac@wichita.edu.
