New graduate students are invited to attend a summer orientation event from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, May 29 in the Woolsey Hall Fidelity Bank Ballroom.

The Graduate School will host a graduate student orientation, where students will learn about basic grad school regulations, campus, technology systems, expectations, academics, advising structure and resources.

The 20th annual Graduate Research and Scholarly Project (GRASP) Symposium was held on April 26 in the Rhatigan Student Center.

Well over 200 students, faculty and staff members attended the event, and 120 graduate student presenters of 73 research posters represented departments and programs from across the university.

This year’s GRASP awardees are:

  • First place: Preliminary Analysis of Ground Stone Artifacts from Etzanoa (14CO3)
    K.M. Carter, anthropology master’s program with advisor Dr. Crystal Dozier
  • Second place: Familiarization Training Game for Extended Reality Spacesuit User Interface
    Robert Beran, Athalee Pate, Braeden McKeown, Pranjal Nawarkar, Alexis Painter, human factors psychology master’s program with advisor Dr. Maggie Schoonover
  • People’s Choice: C.O.S.M.O.S. CosmoShox On-Site Martian Overlay System
    Yumi Kikuchi Coronel, Denae Sawyer, Nathan Lewis, Elaine Duff, Marianna Fronciani Farina, innovation design master’s program with advisor Kristyn Waits

The Graduate School is seeking faculty, staff and community volunteers to judge during the poster session of the 2024 Graduate Research and Scholarly Projects (GRASP) Symposium Friday, April 26 in 305/306 Rhatigan Student Center, Beggs Ballroom. Judges will be asked to be available from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. on the day of the event.

The Graduate School is counting on volunteer services this year, and this will give volunteers an excellent opportunity to learn about the research graduate students have been engaged in across campus.

WSU students and faculty standing with awards at 2024 CGRS award ceremony

The Capitol Graduate Research Summit took place in Topeka March 21. Over 40 graduate students from six Kansas public universities presented their research and how it contributes to the economic development of the state.

Two Wichita State students were awarded at the summit, including Jade Driggs, human factors major, for her poster on the “reverse fundamental attribution error for automated systems: implications for Kansas agricultural operations,” and Jorge de la Hoz, Spanish major, for his poster on “Spanish heritage learners in Kansas: students neglected by the education system.”

Their advisors were Dr. Carryl Baldwin and Dr. Rocío del Águila respectively.

Have a copy of your schedule and projects ready to learn about different ways to manage your time. BioKansas is teaching a lesson highlighting time management methods, strategies on how to prioritize tasks and how to set and meet professional goals.

This is a great opportunity not to just learn about the process, but also work on plans with peers and the speaker.

Capital Graduate Research Summit Present your research in Topeka! Apply by January 31st wichita.edu/capitol

Wednesday, Jan. 31 is the last day for graduate students who would like to present their research in Topeka March 21 at the Capital Graduate Research Summit (CGRS) to submit their research abstracts.

CGRS provides an opportunity for selected graduate students to expose state government, education officials and the public to the quality of graduate research performed in the state of Kansas. CGRS winners receive a certificate and a $500 monetary award.

Graduating this semester? Submit your application for degree! Deadline February 12

For those graduating with their graduate degrees this semester, don’t forget to submit your application for degree. The deadline to submit is Monday Feb. 12. All students who plan to graduate must submit their application for degree and have their plan of study on file with the Graduate School.
