Join the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6 at the LUX Ballroom, 120 E. 1st St. N, for the opening reception of “It’s Been a While.”

The exhibition features artwork by ADCI MFA Studio Art students: Brookelle Peterson, Megan Messer, Abby Ausherman, Sloane Dyer, Branden Lawless, Madison Mullen, Maryam Farahani Parsa, Carlos Palmer, Jessica Lada, Cody Riedy, Aaron Maldonado and Farzaneh Hajighasemi.

The School of Art, Design and Creative Industries will host Clayton Staples Visiting Artists Jessica “JB” Burke and Kariann Fuqua for a panel discussion in conjunction with their collaborative exhibition “A World Away” Thursday, Sept. 12. The panel, facilitated by Robert Bubp, will run from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in 210 McKnight Art Center, with a reception to immediately follow until 5:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

This project has been supported by a grant from the Wichita Arts Council.

The Clayton Staples Gallery’s first exhibition of the fall semester, “A World Away,” will be on view from Aug. 26 to Oct. 10. Located in 205 McKnight Art Center, “A World Away” is a collaboration between artists Jessica “JB” Burke and Kariann Fuqua. Together, Burke and Fuqua create a dialogue that navigates the complexities and implications of “place,” using their art to explore and seek meaning within the shifting landscapes of our shared experiences.

The Clayton Staples Gallery is open to the public 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Join the School Art, Design and Creative Industries Graphic Design Studio class from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 25 in 113B McKnight Art Center as the class presents pitches showcasing projects created during its summer coursework. Additionally, Jenny Venn, graphic design studio professor, will be announcing the launch of an exciting design for the social change ICT small business initiative.

This event is free and open to the public.

Join the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries (ADCI) from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, April 26 in 210 McKnight Art Center to celebrate the accomplishments of art history students studying ADCI.

Presentations by keynote speaker Angela Tucker, coordinator of the Race Project at Johnson County Libraries, and guest speaker Carter Bryant, ADCI alum and ArtsKC program associate, will take place. Event is free and open to the public.

The School of Art, Design and Creative Industries will host “Activating Public Spaces: Panel Discussion with Artists of the Wichita Water Works” from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 22 in 210 McKnight Art Center.

Panelists include Jill Anholt, Sijia Chen and Joseph O’Connell, the artists chosen by the City of Wichita to add beauty and aesthetic improvements via public sculpture art to the grounds of the Wichita Northwest Water Facility.

Chiyoko Myose will give an artist talk in conjunction with her immersive art installation “A Thread X A Thread,” from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 in 210 McKnight Art Center.

Chiyoko Myose is an artist originally from Wakayama, Japan, now based in Wichita. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Doshisha Women’s College in Kyoto, Japan, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from Wichita State. Her works are primarily painting and installation art. Chiyoko has been showing her works through exhibitions and commissions regionally, nationally and internationally including Japan and Italy.

“A Thread X A Thread” will be on display in the McKnight Art Center atrium from April 12 though April 26.

Artist and WSU alum Chiyoko Myose will collaborate with current student Miyu Takahashi on “Harukaze 春風 Spring Breeze,” an immersive experience taking place from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 12 in the McKnight Art Center atrium.

Attendees will view Japanese tea ceremony demonstrations hosted by Miyu Takahashi and immerse themselves in “A Thread X A Thread,” Chiyoko Myose’s ongoing art installation.

The School of Art, Design and Creative Industries will host Jana Erwin, public art manager for the City of Wichita, and Kate Van Steenhuyse, assistant director for the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission, for a discussion on the process used to evaluate artists to work with city and state governments.

The panel will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 2 in 210 McKnight Art Center. Pizza will be served after the talk.

The WSU Art & Design Advocates present the seventh annual Emerging Artists Showcase, celebrating the work of up-and-coming School of Art, Design and Creative Industries student artists representing painting, drawing, ceramics, community and social practice, printmaking, photography, art education and graphic design. The opening reception will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 4 in McKnight Art Center.

At the opening reception, $1750 in cash prizes will be announced by this year’s judge, David Emitt Adams. Prizes are provided by the support of The Cotillion and the Art & Design Advocates.
