Kinship Alumni Network and Black Student Union invite students to The Community Link Up, a collaborative networking event from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 in 265 Rhatigan Student Center, Lucas Room.

Come connect with alumni, community members and professionals from a variety of industries while building relationships, exploring career paths and expanding your network. Whether you are looking for career insight, mentorship, community connections or simply want to meet new people, this event is designed to create space for conversation and opportunity.

Refreshments will be provided, and attendees will also have the chance to win door prizes. Bring a friend, come as you are and join for an evening of connection, conversation and community.

The College of Applied Studies (CAS) Diversity Committee invites the campus community to its next CAS Faculty of Color Lecture Series event, “Amplifying Voices of AAPI Faculty in CAS,” from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 27 via Zoom.

The panelists will be Dr. Sun Young Lee, school of education assistant professor; Dr. Jason Li, ISLE associate professor; and Dr. JaeHwan Byun, school of education assistant professor. The session will be moderated by Dr. Dosun Ko, school of education assistant professor. The event is to celebrate the research and contributions of Asian faculty within CAS and in early celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month.

Intervention Services & Leadership in Education (ISLE) will host a Graduate Program Fair from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 10 in Woolsey Hall. The event aims to inform potential students about ISLE graduate programs and help prepare them for graduate school.

The schedule for the event will be “Why go to grad school & where to apply” from 4 to 5 p.m.; the graduate student panel from 5 to 6 p.m.; and the graduate fair from 6 to 8 p.m. All students considering graduate school are invited to learn more about the graduate programs within ISLE.

The presenters for the event will be Dr. Bobby Berry, assistant dean for diversity and outreach in CAS and assistant professor, and Dr. Valerie J. Thompson, assistant professor of educational leadership and educational psychology in Intervention Service & Leadership in Education (ISLE).

Dr. Berry’s presentation will be “African-American male students at a predominately white institution: Perceptions of adaption and identity,” and Dr. Thompson’s presentation will be “The toxicity of the StrongBlackWoman narrative within student affairs.”
