WSU Concert Choral Heads to Denver - Students in Wiedemann Recital Hall

In a historic moment for Wichita State, the WSU Concert Chorale is set to make its mark at the Southwestern Region American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Convention in Denver, Colorado on Saturday, March 2.

This significant achievement marks the first time in 30 years that WSU will be represented at an ACDA event.

The School of Music is delighted to share the outstanding news that its very own Catherine Consiglio, professor of viola, is set to be honored with induction into the Kansas Chapter of the American String Teachers Association (KASTA) Hall of Fame at this year’s state music convention. The prestigious accolade truly reflects Consiglio’s lifelong commitment and remarkable contributions to string music education.

The Wichita State University Symphony Orchestra Presents: Music of the Movies. Thursday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in Miller Concert Hall.

There’s something magical about the way music and film come together, creating memorable moments that stay with audiences long after the credits roll. At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 in the Miller Concert Hall in Duerksen Fine Arts Center, WSU Symphony Orchestra (WSUSO) invites the campus community to celebrate the compositions of renowned movie composers such as Alan Menken, Joe Hisaishi and John Williams.

As the highlight of the evening, WSUSO will present Charlie Chaplin’s classic, “The Rink,” accompanied by the musicians of the WSUSO. The live music will add a new dimension to Chaplin’s humor and charm, highlighting the profound connection between music and cinema.

Students can receive tickets at no additional charge with their Shocker ID, and they can be pick up tickets in advance at the Fine Arts Box Office in Duerksen Fine Arts Center during operating hours.

Audition materials for the 2023-24 School of Music ensembles are now available online. All current WSU students, regardless of major, are invited to join. Vocalist or instrumentalist, there is a place for you in the School of Music.

A recital in celebration of life for Dr. Walter Mays. Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 3 PM in Wiedemann Hall.

Join the Wichita State University community for a celebration of life for Dr. Walter Mays, distinguished professor in the School of Music, who passed away on July 11. The recital will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 in Wiedemann Hall.

Friends, colleagues, students and family will perform several of May’s original compositions. The event will be live-streamed via the School of Music’s Facebook page.
