WSU Geology Club presents Pet Rocks for Stressed Shocks on Wednesday, May 1st in RSC 264 from 1PM to 3PM

Are you stressed about finals? Do you need a friend to get you through these tough times? Look no further than Pet Rocks for Stressed Shocks. From 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 in 264 Rhatigan Student Center, the Geology Club will host an event where you can make your very own “emotional support rock” to help you get through finals.

This is a come-and-go event, free for all Wichita State students with their Shocker ID. All supplies and rocks are provided at no charge.

WSU Geology Club Presents: Environmental Science Career Expo. Wednesday, November 8th, 10 AM to 1 PM. Rhatigan Student Center, room 266. This expo is open to all students, especially those who wish to pursue a career in environmental science.

Join the WSU Geology Club and connect with companies at the Environmental Science Career Expo from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8 in 266 Rhatigan Student Center.

The following companies will be showcasing current and future job openings and internships at the expo:

  • Textron
  • Kansas Department of Transportation
  • Terracon
  • GSI
  • U.S. Geological Survey

It’s a unique chance to network and interact with private, state and federal employers and open the door to countless opportunities in the ever-evolving field of environmental science. The event welcomes students from all majors and extends an invitation to anyone eager to learn more about career prospects.

Come and de-stress before finals by creating a finals survival bag with the Student Activities Council (SAC). It will have a Wu-themed bracelet-making station, miniature Wichita State coloring books and snacks. Just grab a bag and collect items.

Finals survival bags will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 3 on the first floor of the Rhatigan Student Center. This is a come and go event, and no registration or payment is required.

The annual Student Activities Council (SAC) drag show is back and bigger than ever. Join the SAC, Spectrum: LGBTQ & Allies, and Office of Diversity & Inclusion at 8 p.m. Friday, March 31 at the Eugene M. Hughes Metropolitan Complex, 5015 E. 29th St. N., for a lineup of student, regional and national talent, including the headliner A’keria Davenport. 

A’keria is the 2022 Miss Epitome title holder, 2017-18 holder of the “Miss Black Universe,” and one of the season 11 contestants of RuPaul’s Drag Race, where she placed third. 

The following are the ticket rates for the show:

  • $5 for WSU students with a Shocker ID.
  • $8 for WSU faculty and staff.
  • $10 for the general public.

Calling all poets. The Student Activities Council (SAC) invites students to its poetry slam event 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 at the Rhatigan Student Center Starbucks stage.

The first 100 guests to attend the event will receive a voucher for a hot drink from Starbucks, valid only on April 12. There is no fee or registration required to attend the event, and all guests are free to listen in on the poetic works.

Poets must be current Wichita State students in order to perform. Registration closes on Thursday, April 6.

The Drag Show Committee is currently seeking student drag artists who are interested in performing one to three, five-minute sets for the 13th annual Drag Show from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday March 31 in the Eugene M. Hughes Metropolitan Complex. The deadline to apply is by 5 p.m. Thursday, March 2

This is a great opportunity for new and experienced drag artists to showcase their talent. Students will be compensated based on the number of sets they do.

Expectations of artists:

  • Must be a currently enrolled Wichita State student
  • Able to perform at least one set up to five minutes long
  • Able to be financially responsible for all preparations including wardrobe, makeup and music

Come with a partner or individually and learn the basics of ballroom dancing. Piper Herrington, a WSU alum, will guide the class in styles such as waltz and Latin rumba at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 in the Heskett Center.
