The College of Innovation and Design’s Open XR Lab directors, Maggie Schoonover and Kristyn Waits, will deliver a keynote presentation at the Galaxy Forum, alongside WSU alumna Mallory Jennings, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Participants will have the chance to learn from these professionals and hear firsthand accounts from WSU students engaged in space-related projects. Admission to the Galaxy Forum is free, and attendees will also receive access to the museum, ensuring an enriching experience for everyone involved.

The College of Innovation and Design is forming a team for the 2024-25 NASA SUITS Challenge. Students from all backgrounds and majors are welcome, especially those with AR/VR or Unreal Engine skills.

Applications for the 2024 John A. See Innovation Award will be accepted now until Friday, Jan. 12.

The award was established in 2013 by John A. See to support prototype development, which may include the development of products in engineering and science, development of life-enhancing therapeutic products, creation of application of new knowledge and artistic ventures.

Faculty and students are eligible to apply for the proof of concept award.

Students looking to develop their leadership skills and become an innovative thinker should register for ID 506, “Leadership Development for Innovation,” worth three credit hours, course in June and take their career to the next level.

This course is not an ordinary classroom experience — the class will travel to Chicago to immerse themselves in the culture of innovation and leadership.

Searching for Innovators (That's you!) NASA SUITS info session Thursday, Sept 15 3pm. Devlin Hall 2nd Floor

The College of Innovation and Design is looking for students to join its 2023 NASA SUITS Challenge team — the Harvestars. Students who are interested in joining the team are invited to attend an information session at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 at Devlin Hall.

This is a multidisciplinary student challenge and the Harvestars have had great success in past competitions with their cross-functional teams. Any current Wichita State student of any major can qualify, especially if they possess the following skills:

  • Software development (typically Unity) for augmented reality and virtual reality head-mounted displays
  • Human Factors and user interface design
  • User testing and research
  • Graphic design and video editing
  • Engineering and robotics
  • Outreach and marketing
  • Collaborative team leadership
