Register now for the Ad Astra Conference on Jan. 29, 2027. The Ad Astra Conference brings together first-gen students from colleges and universities across Kansas and the surrounding states together for a common experience with a desired outcome of greater persistence to graduation.

The Ad Astra Conference will be held in 305/306 Rhatigan Student Center, Beggs Ballroom in the second and third floor RSC meeting rooms. WSU students can attend for free.

First-gen Shockers are invited to submit artwork to an all-media art exhibition. Applications will be accepted through Oct. 2.

Art will be exhibited Nov. 2-13 in the Cadman Art Gallery in the Rhatigan Student Center, with a reception from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Nov 5 at the gallery.

Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third places and honorable mentions.

Faculty should use only the published version and refrain from distributing prior versions or alternate templates. University policy statements and resources can also be found.

Dr. Pam O’Neal, associate director of student engagement in the Office of Online and Adult Learning, has been awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the Association of Public & Land-Grant Universities (APLU) and the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities Urban Adult Learner Institute (UALI) for her leadership and dedication as an Urban Adult Learner Institute Fellow.

The APLU and UALI work to build awareness around the needs and assets of adult learners, disseminate best practices on serving them and advance national momentum in better serving these students.

The Coalition of Urban Serving Universities is a university president-led organization committed to achieving equitable and sustainable economic, health and educational outcomes for historically marginalized and disenfranchised student populations on campus and within urban communities.

The Ad Astra Conference brings first-generation students from colleges and universities across Kansas and the surrounding states together for a common experience with a desired outcome of greater persistence to graduation.

The featured speaker is Dr. Teresa L. Clounch (Dr. TLC), acting vice president for student life and dean of students, Washburn University.

WSU students can attend for free. Registration is due by by Jan. 16.

The Academy for Effective Teaching is an organization of retired faculty members who distinguished themselves in their teaching careers. Each year the current faculty is given the opportunity to nominate retired faculty for membership in the Academy. This year the people chosen for membership are: Dr. John E. Dreifort, Dr. Anthony Vizzini, Dr. Maryon J. Habtemariam and C. Nicholas Johnson.

The new members will be inducted into the academy at a reception from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20 in 261 Rhatigan Student Center, Olive Room. You are invited to the reception where the inductees will be honored for their outstanding teaching careers at WSU. RSVP to aa.student@wichita.edu or call 316-978-3010 by Friday, Nov. 14.
