There are still a couple team slots for the action-packed event at the third annual WSU Faculty/Staff Olympics, starting at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 30 at Ablah Library. There will be snacks and prizes.

Activities include badminton, darts, javelin and soccer.

Sign up your team of four, or sign up as an individual and you will be added to a team. Only 20 teams can be accommodated, so sign up sooner rather than later. The deadline to register your team is by 5 p.m. July 24.

All WSU employees, including student employees, are welcome to participate.

Ablah Library will close at noon Wednesday, May 27 for employee training, and will resume regular hours on Thursday, May 28. The 24-hour study room will remain open during this time.

Meet the winners of the Library Research Award at a celebration event at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 6 in the Digital Scholar Commons of Ablah Library.

One undergraduate and one graduate student have written an essay showing exemplary scholarship and creativity through effective research strategies and demonstrated use of resources, including collections, services, equipment, staff or facilities.

Join the First-Year Research Experience (FYRE) from 3 to 5 p.m. May 13 at Ablah Library’s Collaboration Hub for a captivating showcase of research projects. Explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics projects from first-year Shockers already putting their research skills to work.

Ablah Library will be closed on Saturday, April 25 for electrical work related to construction of the new Holmes Museum of Anthropology on the second floor. The outage will also affect the library’s 24-hour study room. It is anticipated that the entire building will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The 24-hour study room will re-open once the electricity is back on. Normal library business will resume from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 26.

National Library Week, April 19-25, is an annual time to highlight all the ways libraries benefit individuals and communities alike. Not only do libraries provide books to read, but they offer a variety of valuable resources. WSU Libraries offers study spaces, research assistance, tech tools and so much more, to help students achieve success.

The Beyond the Lab: Research and Reasoning series finishes out the semester with “Publishing and Presenting in the Health Sciences (and Beyond)” at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 15 in 201 Ahlberg Hall. Presented by University Libraries.

Learn how to take your writing beyond the classroom. This session walks students through what it takes to present at conferences, publish in journals or submit to research competitions. Whether you’re an undergrad getting started or a grad student planning your next step, you’ll leave with a better understanding of the scholarly publishing process.

The Library Research Award recognizes students who have effectively utilized University Libraries’ resources for their research or creative projects during the past academic year (summer through spring semesters). There are two $1,000 prizes, one for undergraduate students and one for graduate students, awarded annually at the conclusion of the spring semester. No need to have a completed project before you apply.

Come to an upcoming informational session from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9 in 217 Ablah Library or virtually to help you plan how you should proceed with assignments and research projects this semester.
