The Department of Mechanical Engineering within the College of Engineering is hosting Dr. Tamas Molnar, a post-doctoral fellow from the California Institute for Technology, Pasadena, from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, May 5 in the 101K Engineering Building.

Molnar will present “Guaranteeing safe behavior for real-world control systems” to students, staff, faculty and industry partners.

The College of Engineering is hosting Dr. Ben Kroposki, PE, IEEE Fellow and the director of the Power Systems Engineering Center at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 27 in 264 John Bardo Center.

Kroposki will present the last talk in the Energy Seminar Series, “Integrating Massive Amounts of Wind and Solar Into Electric Power Systems.” Students, staff, faculty and industry partners are invited to attend the talk.

The College of Engineering is hosting its annual Engineering Open House event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 5 in the John Bardo Center. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet engineering and computing students, explore prototype solutions presented by senior students, and network with other attendees.

Students, staff, faculty and individuals from both Innovation Campus companies and community organizations are invited to attend. There will be an awards ceremony and refreshments immediately following the open house.

The Wichita Linux Users Group (WuLUG) and the College of Engineering are hosting Dennis Pham, a software engineer from Skyward Apps and a WSU alumnus, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 8 for an online workshop through Discord.

The title of the workshop is “Zero to Something in React,” and by the end of the workshop, participants should be able to make a website utilizing the React programming language.

Two faculty members from the Department of Biomedical Engineering within the College of Engineering at Wichita State are serving on BioKansas committees for 2023. Dr. Anil Mahapatro, chair of the department and an associate professor, is serving on the BioKansas Workforce Committee, and Dr. Lindsey Ott, assistant teaching professor, is serving on the BioKansas Engagement Committee.

The mission of BioKansas is to lead the effort of supporting and growing Kansas’ bioscience ecosystem including bioscience research, commercialization, training and business development. Through organizational and collaborative efforts, the organization provides meaningful content, connections and advocacy to advance the state’s bioscience industry.

Distinguished Professor of Psychology Dr. Virginia Valian — member of the doctoral faculties of psychology, linguistics and speech-language-hearing sciences and director of the Language Acquisition Research Center and the Gender Equity Project at Hunter College, CUNY — is visiting Wichita State. The National Science Foundation Advance Catalyst team on campus is sponsoring the visit, including Valian speaking on gender equity at two events.

Valian will deliver the talk, “The Advancement of Women: Better, but Still too Slow,” 10-11 a.m. Friday, March 31 in 265 Rhatigan Student Center. Faculty, staff and alumni are invited to attend the talk.

An open forum featuring Valian will be from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in 265 RSC. Undergraduate and graduate women in STEM fields are encouraged to attend the event.
