Some of the newest and boldest ideas in space exploration will be featured Sept. 15-17 at the NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts Symposium (NIAC), free and open to the public at Wichita State University’s Eugene M. Hughes Metropolitan Complex. The symposium is also available via livestream.

Wichita’s role as host highlights the strong connection between NASA and Wichita State, which includes groundbreaking faculty research, university STEM programs and work with WSU’s National Institute for Aviation Research. For example, the solar detector prototype satellite project led by Wichita State’s Dr. Nickolas Solomey, professor of physics, has its roots in the NIAC Symposium.

President Rick Muma will deliver the welcome address at 9:10 a.m. Sept. 15, and Solomey will deliver the keynote speech at 9:30 a.m. that same day.

At Wichita State, the safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff is our top priority. During periods of inclement weather or extreme cold, we closely monitor weather conditions and make informed decisions about campus operations.

Each weather event is different, and decisions require input from many parts of the university. Facilities staff assess whether sidewalks, parking lots and campus roadways can be cleared and maintained. Dining and housing staff evaluate whether they can continue supporting the students who live on campus and rely on university services. Academic leaders consider the implications for course requirements, while Human Resources evaluates employee obligations and safety.

Since no decision can perfectly fit the circumstances of every member of our community, WSU emphasizes shared and personal responsibility. Each individual must evaluate their own situation, prioritize personal safety, and make responsible choices about whether it is safe to come to campus.

Narrative Writing and Budgets badge

Professionals can learn new skills or enhance what they already know with Badges at Wichita State, such as with the Professional Writing series, which covers a breadth of topics to bring your writing to a higher level.

Badges are bite-sized, one credit hour or fewer courses that can be taken at your own pace using Open Educational Resources. Registering in the Professional Writing series can help you gain skills in areas such as creating your resume and cover letter or writing and editing for social media. Or you can learn more about presenting online and writing professional correspondence, or take a Badge in the Successful Grantwriting series to help you develop research grants.

To learn more about Badges, including how to enroll for the fall 2026 semester, visit wichita.edu/badges.

Wichita State has been a national leader in creating a standard for microcredentials, allowing employers to be confident that meaningful learning has occurred, so you can confidently list a badge from WSU on your resume.

Faculty, have you submitted SEAS feedback yet? SEAS is open for all students. Use it to flag concerns around attendance, participation, assignments and quizzes/exams. If no students are at risk in your class, check the “no students at-risk” box.

New this week:

  • “No Academic Activity“: Use this to flag students who haven’t engaged in your class at all (no communication, no course logins, no work submitted, etc.). Student Success will follow up.
  • “Student Progress“: If a flagged student improves, remove the alert to help us track impact.

To find SEAS via myWSU, go to the Home or Teach/Advise tab and find the SEAS link. to find SEAS via the new myWSU go to the Employee tab and find the SEAS card.

If your SEAS link is empty, try clearing your cache or cookies and logging back in.

Thank you to faculty for helping students stay on track. For more information about SEAS, visit the SEAS website.
