Student Conduct and Community Standards (SCCS) is raising awareness regarding certain policies in the Code of Conduct at WSU. For the Month of November, SCCS is discussing fire safety and cooking.

Did you know that the fire safety policy in the Student Code of Conduct discusses:

  • Breaking the plane
  • Failure to follow emergency procedures
  • Falsely reporting an emergency
  • Fire, explosion or other safety hazards
  • Fireworks, hazardous chemicals or explosives
  • Misuse of emergency equipment
  • Propping doors

Additionally, if you live in the WSU’s residence halls, there is a cooking policy that provides helpful tips and regulations when cooking, such as:

  • Never leave a stove, oven or microwave with active heat sources unattended.
  • Utilize the venting features through either a vent hood or microwave vent when using the stove to cook.
  • Exercise an abundance of caution when cooking with any type of oil. Cooking vessels must not be filled more than 25% with oil.
  • Properly dispose of oil and grease leftover from any cooking. Never dispose of grease or oil down a sink drain. Allow grease and oil to cool before attempting to dispose of it.
  • Do not put metal or part-metal containers or utensils in microwaves. Always verify a dish or vessel is rated for use in a microwave before placing it in a microwave.

Did you know that weapons are defined as engaging in the possession, use, sale, distribution, or display of any firearm, replica firearm, ammunition, weapon, replica weapon or similar device unless expressly permitted by law and/or university policy. This includes the use of any object or material to cause or threaten physical harm.

For a listing of prohibited weapons, refer to Section 11.19/Prohibiting Weapons on University Property.

Student Conduct and Community Standards (SCCS) is raising awareness regarding certain policies in the Code of Conduct at WSU. For the Month of September, SCCS is focusing on academic integrity.

Did you know that Academic Integrity is any act or action which includes:

  • Plagiarism
  • Unauthorized use or possession of materials or resources
  • Unauthorized collaboration or consultation
  • Fabrication, falsification, or misrepresentation of information
  • Academic interference
  • Unauthorized resubmission
  • Facilitation of academic misconduct
  • Bribery
  • Unauthorized sale, distribution or receipt of academic materials
  • Research misconduct as identified in policy 9.13/Misconduct in Research.

As a WSU faculty or staff member, you are required to report academic integrity issues to the SCCS office. If outcomes are assigned to the student, such as an assignment grade reduction, course grade reduction, assignment resubmission, etc., please use the academic integrity report form.

Wichita State University has a single website for all students, staff, and faculty to utilize for reporting any incidents of concerning behavior. If you see something that gives you cause for concern, please submit any information you have through the appropriate form on WSU’s Report It website. The website includes reporting forms for:

  • COVID-19 Report – Used to report Positive COVID-19 test results for students only.
  • Care Team Report – Used to report any person who is concerned about the health or safety of a WSU student, employee, visitor or the campus community.
  • Title IX/ Discrimination Report – Used to report any discrimination on the basis of sex and all forms of protected characteristic discrimination.
  • Bias Incident Report– Used to report any bias-related incidents.
  • Student Advocate Report – Used to report any student complaint, where the student advocate can help provide resources and resolution options.
  • Conduct Report – Used to report behavior that is disruptive to the campus community, infringes on any person’s ability to successfully pursue their academic progress, violates the Student Code of Conduct or puts others or themselves in danger.
  • Academic Integrity Report – Used to report violations of the WSU Policies and Procedures Manual Section 2.17 / Student Academic Integrity
  • Clery Report – Used to report any crimes related to the Clery Act.

The office of Student Conduct and Community Standards is looking for students to join its Academic Integrity and Student Conduct hearing boards. The committee offers students an opportunity to gain community service hours and have a lasting impact on their college campus.

Along active and engaged board member training, students who join the Student Conduct Board will help create the future of what these boards look like.

Serving on the Academic Integrity Committee or Student Conduct Board will students to meet and work with Wichita State faculty and staff, engage with their peers and broaden their network.
