Dr. Rachel Amerson

Rachel Amerson, Ph.D., was promoted to training director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Rachel has been at CAPS for three years, starting as a trainee herself in her doctoral internship.

Since then, she has been passionate about supporting trainees and expanding the training opportunities at CAPS. Rachel has also taken over the training director position for the APA accredited Wichita Collaborative Psychology Internship Program (WCPIP), which includes internship opportunities at CAPS, University of Kansas Medical Center and Prairie View.

Samantha Tedder

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) announced the promotion of Samantha Tedder, M.S., LMLP as the new associate director, clinical director.

After multiple years as a mental health counselor and group therapy coordinator at CAPS, she will transition into her new role. Samantha brings great organizational skills, superior communication and most importantly a wonderful clinical eye.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides a variety of group counseling services to students in multiple areas of focus and concern. Group therapy is always available at no additional charge.

Group therapy is offered due to its effectiveness in addressing multiple challenges individuals face in their lives as well as the unique experience it provides. CAPS runs various groups per semester to address the ever-changing needs of the WSU campus, and group therapy is always at no additional charge.

Counseling and Prevention Services (CAPS) invites helping professions students to a free opportunity to connect, discuss and learn with peers in a safe setting. It will cover four topics, and students may attend one or all sessions in the series.

All events are from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Student Wellness Center:

  • April 13: Self care: A necessity, not a luxury.
  • April 20: The social network: Tips to build professional connections.
  • April 27: Helping the helper: Finals de-stress event.
