The priority deadline for submitting your presentation proposal for the 2026 Kansas Gender & Sexuality Conference is coming up Wednesday, Feb. 4, so here’s your friendly reminder.

The purpose of this annual free interdisciplinary conference is to showcase the gender- and sexuality-related scholarly work happening across the state — highlighting students, faculty, staff and/or community partners’ creative and scholarly activities — and to provide an opportunity to network across departments and universities and community organizations across Kansas.

It’s easy to submit. Just fill out the brief CFP survey, which will ask you for a title for your presentation, names and affiliations of presenters, along with a brief 200-300-word summary/abstract describing the focus of your original research, proposed interactive training/workshop, panel discussion or other creative work related to the exploration of gender and/or sexuality related topics.

The purpose of the annual free interdisciplinary conference is to showcase the gender- and sexuality-related work (research, workshop/training, creative works) conducted by students, faculty, staff and community partners from Kansas communities and universities, and to provide opportunities to network across departments and campus/community silos.

In addition to traditional paper sessions and workshops, this year, there’s the opportunity to organize panel discussions too.

The 2024 Kansas Gender & Sexuality Conference will be held Oct. 18 on the third floor of the Rhatigan Student Center. The conference is free and open to the public. Organizers request that all attendees pre-register to help with the conference planning process, even if they plan to drop in and out.

Pre-registration will be open until 11:59 p.m. Oct. 6.

About this year’s keynote:

Organizers are excited to share that the keynote speaker will be Dr. Meg Paceley (they/them), whose talk is titled, “Health, Activism, Community and Resistance in an Era of Anti-LGBTQ+ Policy, Legislation and Rhetoric.”

Registration is now open for the 10th anniversary of the Kansas Gender & Sexuality Conference, to be held on March 10 in the Rhatigan Student Center. As always, the conference is free and open to all students, faculty and staff from all disciplines affiliated with a Kansas university or surrounding community.

The keynote this year, “Gender, identity and reproductive justice in a post-Roe world,” will be given by Dr. Leandra Hernandez, assistant professor and associate academic director for the Center for Social Impact at Utah Valley University.

Anyone planning to attend, even for part of the day or dropping in and out, should register in advance. Pre-registration will close at midnight on Sunday, March 5.

Kansas Gender and Sexuality Conference, 10th Anniversary, March 10th, 2023.

It’s a new year and a new opportunity to share research and scholarship at the 10th annual Gender & Sexuality conference on March 10 in the Rhatigan Student Center. Submissions are now being accepted.

Students, staff and faculty are invited to submit work in all disciplines for either a traditional oral presentation or a short workshop format.

The deadline for submissions is Feb. 10.

Text 'IThe week starts out with the 7th annual Diverse Women's Summit to be held on Monday, March 7th which will consist of a Student Showcase from 9:00 am-noon, followed by a Creative Concourse from 1:00 - 4:00 pm, and an evening International Women's Day panel on Intersectionality at Wichita State: Prospects and Perspectives from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm. On Thursday, March 10th, we kick off the 9th annual Gender & Sexuality in Kansas Conference with a keynote presentation featuring, C.J. Janovy, who will share Lessons in Activism from LGBT Kansas. The talk will be proceeded by a community showcase from 5:30-6:30 pm in the Marcus Welcome Center. Celebrate Intersectional Feminism at three events March 7-11. The events are in honor of Women’s History Month and are sponsored by the Center for Women’s Studies, the Women’s, Ethnicity, and Intersectional Studies Steering Committee, the Department of Sociology, and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI). Registration is now open for the ninth annual Gender an Sexuality in Kansas conference. The conference will include a keynote speech 5:30-7:30 p.m. March 10 at the Marcus Welcome Center and a virtual full-day event 9 a.m.-3 p.m. March 11. The conference is free to all students, faculty and staff from Kansas colleges and universities and the surrounding communities.

The keynote presentation will feature C.J. Janovy, author of “No Place Like Home: Lessons in Activism from LGBT Kansas.” There is a virtual option to attend this event.

All conference attendees must register by March 7 to receive the links needed to access the conference sessions.

Wichita State’s Department of Sociology and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion are requesting abstracts for presentations at the ninth annual Gender and Sexuality in Kansas conference March 11 at the Rhatigan Students Center. Priority will be given to submissions received by Feb. 4.

Who should submit: The conference is interdisciplinary. All submissions of original scholarship, research or proposed training and workshops related to gender and sexuality from any discipline will be accepted. This is a great opportunity for students, faculty, staff and community members to showcase their academic or advocacy-related work. It will also allow participants to interact with others who are interested in learning about the ways gender and sexuality shape life opportunities and experiences.

What to submit:  To apply, participants should submit a basic 200-300 word abstract summarizing their proposed presentation including the topic and research questions, methodology, and a preview of their findings or main themes they will address in the presentation. To submit, apply at the 2022 Gender and Sexuality in Kansas Conference website.

The sponsors of this event are closely monitoring local health conditions and will be ready to pivot to a virtual conference if necessary.

Gender and Sexuality in Kansas Conference

Planning for the 2022 Gender & Sexuality in Kansas Conference to be held on Friday, March 11th at the Rhatigan Student Center is underway, and the call for presentations is now open.

We invite submissions of original research or scholarship in any discipline from across Kansas. To be considered, presentation proposal abstracts (a 200- to 300-word presentation summary) are due by Feb. 4.

The purpose of this annual interdisciplinary free conference is to showcase the gender- and sexuality-related scholarship happening across our state, highlighting the scholarly and creative work of students, faculty, staff, and community partners, and to provide an opportunity to network across departments and universities within Kansas.

At present, we are planning to hold the conference in person as long as circumstances permit safe gathering, but will be prepared to pivot to a virtual environment if warranted.
