The 2026 Kansas Sport Summit, a highly anticipated event, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 2 in 305/306 Rhatigan Student Center, Beggs Ballroom. The 2026 summit will offer a unique platform to gain insights into the latest trends in sports and related fields. A distinguished Shocker alumnus, Marc Farha, the co-CEO of CAA ICON, will deliver a keynote session, followed by a roundtable discussion with Dani Welniak, vice president of communications at KC Current. The Journal of Contemporary Issues in Sport (JCIS) is excited to share the release of volume 1, issue 2, which was published Friday, Dec. 12. Readers are invited to explore the latest collection of scholarly work that aligns with our mission to bridge the gap between theory, practice and the evolving challenges faced by the sport industry.

JCIS is a scholarly, semi-annual, peer-reviewed publication that caters to both academics and practitioners. It is sponsored by the Department of Sport and Leadership Studies at Wichita State, with the dedicated support of the University Libraries and Dr. Susan Matveyeva.

The Department of Sport and Leadership Studies is delighted to announce the launch of the Journal of Contemporary Issues in Sport (JCIS), a scholarly peer-reviewed journal established by Dr. Wonyoung Kim. It is published by the Department of Sport and Leadership Studies in collaboration with Dr. Susan Matveyeva and University Libraries.

JCIS is committed to exploring and disseminating research, critical analysis and thought-provoking discussions on contemporary issues within the field of sport management and related topics. It serves as a valuable resource for scholars, researchers, educators, students, sport industry professionals, policymakers and anyone interested in understanding the dynamic and ever-evolving landscape of the sport industry.

The inaugural issue of JCIS is now accessible online. The Department of Sport and Leadership Studies warmly invites scholars, practitioners and students to explore the journal and consider contributing to its future volumes.

The 2025 Kansas Sport Summit will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 17 on the third floor of the Rhatigan Student Center. Organizers are excited to welcome over 150 students/faculty from institutions such as Washburn University, McPherson College, University of Nebraska at Kearney, Central Christian College of Kansas, Baker University, Newman University, Friends University, Butler Community College and five high schools, as well as over 40 practitioners from regional sports and related organizations.

The summit will bridge the gap between scholarship and applications in sport management and related fields by integrating round table discussions, breakout sessions and a career fair with ignite interviews to share insights, discuss emerging trends and explore collaborative opportunities for students, practitioners and faculty/staff in sport management and related fields.

2024 Kansas Sport Summit

The Department of Sport Management will host the inaugural Kansas Sport Summit from 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Thursday, March 28 on the third floor of the Rhatigan Student Center in Beggs Ballroom East, Gridley Room and McKay Room.

Over 100 students from regional high schools, two-year and four-year colleges, and over 30 practitioners from regional and national organizations will be in attendance to share insights, discuss emerging trends and explore collaborative opportunities for students, practitioners and faculty/staff in sport management and related fields.
